About CarMD

The mission of CarMD is to redefine the driving journey, ensuring all drivers feel connected, informed and secure throughout their vehicle's lifespan.

Our Story

In 2006, CarMD launched to empower consumers by providing them with tools and information to make better-educated decisions about their vehicle’s health.

The brainchild of longtime automotive aftermarket visionary Ieon C. Chen, the company aimed to provide consumers with a way to diagnose their car’s check engine light as easily as putting gas in their car.

From 2006 to 2013, CarMD sold its handheld device (#2100/#2110/#2150) and software. Drivers could plug the device into an OBD2 port under their vehicle’s dashboard and get a green, yellow or red LED to see if their car was ready for a road trip or emissions test.

The device also connected to a computer to generate a vehicle health report with upcoming maintenance and estimated repair costs.

The original CarMD product earned many prestigious awards, including a 2007 CES Innovation Award and 2010 Edison Award. We've helped millions of people inspect used cars, monitor their vehicles’ health, and save money on car repairs.

As vehicles become more complex, and consumers become more comfortable using apps and Ai, CarMD is developing new ways to improve the driving and vehicle ownership experience. We're building products that keep you connected and protected, whether you're driving solo or keeping an eye on family.
